While Escondido used to have a large agricultural industry, as neighboring San Diego expanded Escondido re-developed much of its land to residential use. Two highways serve Escondido, Route 78 and Interstate 15. Both of these highways are heavily congested, so use public transportation when you can. The North County Transit District (NCTD) operates local bus service, with the Escondido Transit Center serving as a hub. The transit center has connections to both the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System and the Riverside Transit Agency. The Sprinter light rail line, operated by NCTD, links the transit center to Oceanside using the existing 22-miles long.
The further north on I-15 you live, the worse your commute. Most commuters are heading south in the morning, towards San Diego.The more time you spend in your vehicle, the more miles you are driving, so check your policy every six months to make sure you have the most complete car insurance.
