John Davey – Information Systems Administrator
John joined CheapInsurance.com in 1998. A native Californian, John has spent more than two decades designing and supporting the information systems that powered the company’s regional offices.
John has been around the tech block: starting in the DOS and Windows 3.11 days, moving through NetWare and Linux, and adopting every major platform since. John built the company’s first website in 1998, then went on to design wide area networks, develop custom Linux and Microsoft solutions, and even create a document management system from the ground up because nothing off the shelf quite fit what the business needed.
John works hands-on with insurance specific technologies, including comparative quoting systems, agency management platforms, and cloud-based virtual environments. John manages the carrier integrations that keep quotes moving smoothly behind the scenes.
Reflecting on twenty-five years of technology changes in the insurance world, John recalls “I remember when the big challenges were things like long file name formats that Microsoft Windows 95 offered, and the fact that older network systems like Netware 3.11 weren’t ready for it yet. We had to patch Netware just to allow those long file names. Or the need for a modem and phone line at every agent’s desk to allow them to upload a policy to an insurance carrier. Every carrier had their own DOS dial up software – thirty different pieces of software at every desk, in every one of our offices across the state.”
John offers “Insurance, as an industry, used to be so slow to modernize, and slower still to adopt new technologies. But now insurance solutions are at the forefront of developing improvements and efficiencies through technology.”
Before CheapInsurance.com, he worked for TRW, Georgia Pacific, and PRIDE Industries. At PRIDE, as a Division Manager, he ran logistics contracts for clients like Hewlett-Packard, NEC, and Toshiba, and built a custom inventory management system for the Logistics Division that became central to how it operated.
Outside of work, John stays plenty busy giving back to his community. He serves as president of the board for a local nonprofit and chairs his community’s Area Planning Advisory Committee, a group that was honored as District 1 Volunteers of the Year in 2018.

In addition, John has been appointed by the local Community Services District Board of Directors to chair the LLAD Citizens Advisory Committee. reviewing dozens of annual engineering reports, and defining general vs special benefit methodologies for assessment levies. John was also asked to serve on the community’s central park working group, to help refine options for future uses for the historic community golf course, using his perspective as a 30 year resident.
