Travelers will find a number of things to do when they are visiting Sacramento, California. Visitors who stay in downtown Sacramento will find several things to do in that area. Other areas of the city have historic sites, museums, attractions for children, places to shop and wineries.

Visitors who do not want to do a lot of driving will enjoy staying in downtown Sacramento. Hotels in the area are near restaurants, stores and office buildings. Hotels include Embassy Suites, the Sheraton, Best Western and Holiday Inn. Two downtown restaurants are 4th Street Grille and Il Fornaio. Pasta, seafood and sandwiches are served at the 4th Street Grille. Diners can order Italian food at Il Fornaio. Visitors can shop in Macy’s and a number of smaller stores at Westfield Downtown Plaza. The office buildings in downtown Sacramento have companies offering a variety of services including our own, offering everything from homeowners insurance to car insurance in Sacramento.

Old Town Sacramento is one of the attractions near downtown Sacramento. This area has museums, restaurants and shops. The Old Sacramento Schoolhouse Museum is a replica of a schoolhouse from the late 1800s. Exhibits at the Sacramento History Museum focus on the history of the Sacramento area. Visitors can take rides on excursion trains near the California State Railroad Museum. Places to eat in the area include Laszlo’s Gourmet Smoked Fish, La Terraza Mexican Restaurant and The Happy Pita Café. Some of Old Town Sacramento’s shops are the Old Town Train Shop, Leathers by Mary Terry and California Gifts & Shirts.

Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park is one of the historic sites in Sacramento. Sutter’s Fort has been restored to appear the way it did in 1846. Visitors can see the blacksmith shop and the carpentry shop. The Leland Stanford Mansion is another historic site. This home was built during the 1860s. It is furnished with the Stanford family’s original furniture and looks the way it did when the family was living there.

Some of the museums in Sacramento are the Crocker Art Museum, the California State Indian Museum and the Towe Auto Museum.

Children will enjoy visiting the Sacramento Zoo and Fairytale Town. Fairytale Town is an outdoor children’s museum with settings and characters from fairy tales and nursery rhymes.

Arden Fair is one of the places to shop in Sacramento. This mall has over 160 stores including Nordstrom, Macy’s, Sears, The Children’s Place and the Disney Store.

Frasinetti’s Winery & Restaurant is one of the wineries near the city. Visitors can sample wines in the tasting room, shop at the gift shop, stroll through the winery’s gardens and dine in the restaurant on the property.
