Insurance For Drivers With Bad Records

Friday, September 30, 2011

A bad driving record can seem like a curse when you are trying to find cheap insurance for your car. Car insurance for drivers with a DUI on their record is especially hard to manage because many insurers apply exorbitant rates to any policy they offer in such cases. There are some ways to try and solve this problem.

You will probably not be able to get insurance with a high class insurance company, so talking to them may be a waste of your time. The good news is that many of the discount insurance companies are willing to offer minimum policies to just about anyone. If do you have a bad record, their rates may indeed be higher for you than they are for their other customers. They will make you an offer though and give you a chance to acquire the legally required minimum insurance.

Other companies have special offers that allow you to erase your past. The initial rate that you pay each month may be high, but with each year that passes without an accident or traffic ticket your rate will be lowered. This sort of program all depends on you and your ability to recover from the errors of your past. If you continue to add to your already bad driving record, things will only get worse.

The insurance rates will also differ based on the value of your car. You might be able to get affordable insurance if you change the make and model of your vehicle. In other words, driving an expensive car with a bad record will pretty much guarantee high rates. Changing your car might not seem preferable, but it might be the only way to get insurance that you can actually afford.

In summary, finding cheap car insurance is not easy when you have a bad driving record. You may have to do a lot of searching before you find anyone that will provide car insurance that you can afford.  For more information, check out our “Unlucky Drivers” page or give us a call.
